Ivan Heng and John Dinning


In John C. Dinning’s 40 year career as a set and costume designer, he has managed to work all across Canada for such companies as The Vancouver Playhouse, The Arts Club, The Citadel, Theatre Calgary, Alberta Theatre Projects, Prairie Theatre Exchange, Shaw, The Grand Theatre, The Segal Centre, Centaur Theatre, Theatre New Brunswick and Neptune Theatre to name a few.

Over the course of the 4 decade career, he is most proud of the 65 original World Premiere productions he has designed. They have included such productions as : Fire, Schwartz’s : The Musical, Anne & Gilbert, Mambo Italiano, For the Pleasure of Seeing Her Again ( original & National Tour ), Some Assembly Required, The Mad Boy Chronicles, I Love You Anne Murray/ Love is Strange ( Tour ), All Fall Down and Assorted Candies.

John has also been a Scenic Artist for 45 years painting for Ballet and Opera as well as the Theatre.  He was the designer and a Scenic Artist on Theatre Calgary’s production of  One Man, Two Guvnors where he painted perspective scenery in the Baroque Theatre style.

John has taught design and scenic art at various institutions like The National Theatre School of Canada, Concordia University, Bishops University and was full time Faculty at The Fountain School for the Performing Arts at Dalhousie University for five years.

He continues to draw and paint with zest and exhibits whenever  he can. Time permitting of course!

John is a member of A.D.C. and  A.P.A.S.Q.
